Purley Cross Retail Park - Op Dunmoragh - Shoplifitng Operation Outcome

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

On Thursday 24th July, Waddon Safer Neighborhoods Team initiated a day of Op Dunmoragh, and operation which specifically targets shoplifting. Plain clothed officers were stationed around Purley Cross Retail Park, Croydon, in the hopes of catching those attempting to steal from shops, while uniformed Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's) were in the CCTV room of those shops looking out for suspicious behavior.

Within 3 hours, there was 3 Stop & Searches conducted - 2 relating to shoplifting, and 1 relating to supply/posession of drugs.
Out of those 3 Stop & Searches, 2 males were arrested. The other male was dealt with by a Community Resolution.

1x arrested for shoplifting
1x arrested for breach of Criminal Behavior Order which was linked to Shoplifting

In total approximately £850 worth of goods was recovered and returned.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
